NIFTEM-INSTRUMENTATION & PROCESS CONTROL-ENG 321- Midterm + End Semester Question Paper Jun 2019- 6th Sem

MIDTERM

Important points-

  1. Time- 1:30 hours
  2. Total Marks- 50
  3. Three parts A, B & C, in which Part A is compulsory of (15 marks) having Objective questions, MCQs, Fill in the blanks and matching type questions. Students have to answer the questions from Part-A on the paper itself. Time allotted for Part-A is 25 minutes
  4. Part B & part C consists of 25 marks and 10 marks respectively. Have to attempt -Part B- 5 questions of 5 marks each & Part C- 1 Questions of 10 marks. Time for Part-B and C is total of 01:05 hours.

PART B 

 

Answer any 5 questions from the following-

 

1. Explain the calibration chain in detail.

 

2. Explain the difference between open-loop & closed-loop systems.

 

3. Calculate Laplace transform’of x(t) = e(-at)u(t) & plot the ROC.

 

4. Calculate the overall transfer function of the block diagram using a block diagram reduction technique.

 

5. Calculate and analyze the response of the system given below subjected to unit step input as:

 

6. Explain the classifications of measurement systems.

 

7. State and explain Process control systems

 

8. Discuss the limitations of Beer’s law.

 

PART C

Answer any 1 question from the following-

1. Calculate the overall transfer function of the following block diagram using the block diagram reduction method.

(a) Explain scaled ammeters and voltmeters in detail

(b) Describe how electrodynamics instruments can be used as Wattmeters?

 


END SEM

Important points-

  1. Time- 3:00 hours
  2. Total Marks- 100
  3. Three parts A, B & C, in which Part A is compulsory of (30 marks) having Objective questions, MCQs, Fill in the blanks and matching type questions. Students have to answer the questions from Part-A on the paper itself. Time allotted for Part-A is 40 minutes
  4. Part B & part C consists of 40 marks and 30 marks respectively. Part B- 8 questions of 5 marks each & Part C- 3 Questions of 10 marks each. Time for Part-B and C is total of 2:20 hours.

PART B 

Answer any 8 questions from the following-

 

1. What are transducers? Explain the measurement of temperature.

 

2. What is humidity? Discuss two instruments for humidity measurement.

 

3. Discuss measurement principles for the measurement of gas concentration.

 

4. Explain the difference between open-loop & closed-loop systems.

 

5. Explain the calibration chain in detail.

 

6. Explain the classifications of measurement systems.

 

7. Calculate Laplace transform of x(t) = e(-at)u(t) & plot ROC.

 

8. Discuss the difference between the moving coil and moving iron instruments. Explain the Permanent Magnet Moving coil instrument (PMMC).

 

9. Discuss the difference between absolute and relative stability. Explain (with neat diagram) the concept of stability of the system with respect to the location of poles of the system.

 

10.  State and explain Process control systems.

PART C

 

Answer any 3 questions from the following-

 

1. Calculate the overall transfer function of the following block diagram using the block diagram reduction method.

2.  Using Routh Hurwitz criteria, determine the stability of the system whose characteristic equation is given as:

s6+s5+5s4 +3s3+ 2s2 -4s-8=0

 

3. Discuss Cathode Ray Oscilloscope (CRO) in detail.

 

4. The open-loop transfer function of a system is given by

G(s)H(s)= (20) / ( s*(1+3s)*(1+4s))

Calculate closed-loop stability using the Bode Plot.

 

5. Explain SCADA in detail.
